Rosalind Russell & Angela Lansbury were terrific in this role. The film reprise of the musical version of Mame with Lucille Ball is also no exception. Whilst Lucy was clearly not a singer, this is nevertheless part of the wonderful charm of this version. It is interesting to hear Bea Arthur switch roles in Bosom Buddies to do the lower part (she did the opposite in the Lansbury version). I would recommend this album, it's full of personality and a great score for a wonderful play. After buying this album go out and rent the DVD and remember the time you went to the cinema to watch this for the first time again.
I Love (lucy) Antie Mame
Ive loved this film (and soundtrack) since I was a child - A gay one at that! Yes its slow (the tempo has been slowed down becuase poor old Lucy couldnt really sing) - and she was recovering from a broken leg so couldnt really dance either., however - its still a great piece of history. The highlight - Bosom buddies with Bea Arthur (playing Vera Charles) this is a complete gem. Enjoy this recording for all its camp finery and not for its technical failings - it really is the last musical of its kind.
My favourite movie of all time !
This is by far my favourite movie of all time. I could play it all day every day and NEVER get sick of it. RIP Lucy xxxxx
