Album Review

Messenger features Australian legend Jimmy Little collaborating with Brendan Gallagher, who not only producers, arranges, and records the album, but also plays a large majority of the instruments on each song. Going into this album, Gallagher had wanted to re-record a number of Australia's most noteworthy artists, and in Little he found a vocalist worthy of such an ambitious project. Together, the two re-recorded a total of 11 songs, all originally performed by Australian musical artists. Some of the covers include the Church's "Under the Milky Way," Crowded House's "Into Temptation," the Go-Betweens' "Cattle and Cane," Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' "(Are You) The One I've Been Waiting For," and seven more.

The excellent Jimmy Little

Jimmy is a great crooner with a wonderful rich voice. This is great easy listening or romantic music. The really clean sound is just a pleasure to listen to.

Just fabulous

Jimmy Little interprets some classic Aussie songs with his magical voice. It was a good thing that Brendan Gallagher and Jimmy got together to add some light to these records. Jimmy Little is a very special Australian. I have to say all the songs are great, so do yourself a favour and buy the album.

Growing up on the Cummeragunja mission on the Murray River in Victoria, Little left for Sydney in 1955 to pursue his country music where his mellow style earned him the nicknames of the Balladeer, Gentleman Jim, and the Honey Voice. His first single, "Mysteries...
