Sirenia's new sound...

True, Sirenia have adopted -in this latest of their albums- a somewhat more 'poppyish' sound than longtime fans may be used to, but they still nevertheless know how to rock. This album has grown on me considerably after a couple of listens, and for me the standout tracks are: 'The Other Side', 'Seven Keys and Nine Doors', and, most of all, the brilliant 'Sundown'. My only complaint is that the death-growls of Morten Veland (who used to front for Tristania btw) only appear on three tracks. Nevertheless, I highly recomend this album, and, for those in search of something a little heavier, I also recomend Tristania.

Somehow, leading Norway's Tristania to the top of the goth metal heap wasn't enough for vocalist/guitarist Morten Veland, who unilaterally seceded from the union in the year 2000 to found a brand-spanking-new though similar-sounding band named Sirenia. Picking up pretty much where he'd left off stylistically, Veland hand-picked compatriots Kristian Gundersen (clean vocals, guitar), Hans Henrik Varland (keyboards), and French singer Fabienne Gondamin to quickly perform on the following year's At Sixes...
