iTunes Review

Amid the frenetic pace of 21st-century digital living, Fleet Foxes’ debut album serves as a tranquil woodland retreat where time slows to a crawl. But the group trade cabin-in-the-woods solitude for widescreen, canyon-filling grandeur. When they lock into choir-like formation on “White Winter Hymnal” and “He Doesn’t Know Why”, they effectively resemble a landlocked Beach Boys, with the surfboards and soda pops replaced by chopped logs and cans of beans cooked on an open flame.

Wow. what a debut. are these guys channelling some Brian Wilsonesque spirit. Many have tried in the past but this attempt is the real deal. Just beautiful music and without a doubt the best album of the year so far. The only thing thats comes close to it is another debutante Bon Iver. 2008 is the year of wonderous exciting and talented songwriting.

Mesmerisingly beautiful

What a debut! I purchased the Sun Giant EP after reading a very favourable review. I loved it! I love this just as much too. What a perfect mix of slower songs and more tumbling affairs with that folky edge and the gorgeous Beach Boys-esque harmonies. White Winter Hymnal, Ragged Wood and He Doesn't Know Why definitely recommended.

Spirit uplift

Lots of layers here to set you soaring and uplift the spirit. Shades of Moody Blues and Enigma but more folk and blues...odd mix. I love Your Protector...its like Im riding thru a forest on an epic quest....great stuff. I hope they can refine and build on this sound.

Mixing Baroque pop with elements of classic rock and British folk, the band took shape in 2006 as Pecknold was joined by guitarist Skyler Skjelset, bassist Bryn Lumsden, drummer Nicholas Peterson, and keyboardist Casey Wescott. After playing only a handful of shows, the band generated...
