Pushing the limits!

Do not expect another "Sweet About Me", please! Those days are well and truly over. Gabriella Cilmi is back, and has grown as an artist. She has taken a big risk for the right reasons! As per the lyrics, she is un-doubtfully "stronger than ever", and is set to take on the music world by storm once again.. This time, with an intense, retro-inspired edge! The reactions of this song are going to be all over the place, because this is really not what everyone was expecting. People really need to move past that fact, and appreciate the track for what it is, because honestly... IT IS PURE POP PERFECTION!!!

On a fail?

Gabriella Cilmi has a fantastic voice. For a young woman, her voice is strong and a pleasure to listen to. That's why this song is a fail. We know Gab is no longer 16 and fast becoming an adult. But trading up such a wonderful voice to "prove to the world I'm no longer a little girl" is becoming such a tedious experience most are no longer buying. The beat is good, but the lyrics and set-up of the song are just wrong. The 80's esque melody is tired, the synthesised way Cilmi's voice sounds in the verses sounds scratchy and whiny, and the short, sharp way the lyrics are delivered/sung by her just does not suit her voice at all. Granted, Garbriella doesn't have to be "sweet about me" all the time (she is a grown-up after all),but...I dunno...there is just something about this song that is way off-putting. Gabriella Cilmi, please stick to what you are best at: nice, laidback rhythems with a lovely voice to match!

been there, failed then too.

nothings different.
in terms of the song and lyrics, its a lot simular to 'this is who i am' by vanessa amorosi.

"girl power!" "i am my own person!" "im stronger than ever"
preeeety much all the song says, give or take a few "woooh ooohhha oooo"s

sorry gabbi. try again??

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '00s, '10s

A Melbourne-born, U.K.-based singer/songwriter, Gabriella Cilmi possesses a smoky, whiskey-soaked voice that belies her age and a feisty rock attitude that placed her on the inside fast track to pop stardom. Born October 10, 1991, in Dandenong, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, Cilmi attended Sacred Heart Girls' College in nearby Oakleigh, where, when rebuffed at an audition for a high-school musical and told she lacked the discipline to be a good singer, she was driven to form a garage band and...
