Sammy Turner is a classy pop singer who's often mislabeled R&B, which is perplexing because there aren't many traces of rhythm or blues in his music. Turner is MOR, easy listening, and pop, but hardly R&B. This best-of presents 19 of Turner's best, executed in his laid-back methodical style, including his signature piece, "Lavender Blue" — a title that aptly describes his voice. Turner's vocal approach worked well during the pioneering '50s but dated badly when the '60s rolled around. If you enjoy crooners like Nat King Cole, Johnny Hartman, Billy Eckstine, Johnny Mathis, etc., you will love this CD, because Sammy Turner's in that class.
