Storm Warning - here comes tha thunda!

OK, so I first heard about the Thundamentals on Sydney FBi Radio 94.5, namely Storm Warning was the tune that sucked me in...hearing this I took a drive up to Katoomba and was able to pick up a copy of the EP from a little record shop on the main drag...the seven track EP was certainly worth the drive...anyway, that's the history...

...having seen the full album was released, I took a 'preview all' on iTunes and wasn't that impressed...basically there wasn't what I could tell to be another Storm Warning (though the secret gem of the EP IMO is Disconnect) so I gave it a miss! However through hearing a few plays of I HIP HOP on FBi (and getting $60 itunes vouchers from my budgie for my birthday) I took the plunge!

Having listened to the album several times now, I feel I can accurately rate it.

Though I wouldn't say that there are any real stand out tunes such as Storm Warning or Disconnect (from the EP) what Sleeping on Your Style delivers is a phat does of Aussie Hip Hop and beats. There are distorted basslines a plenty, kick-drums so bassy that my windows shake and flowing lyrics that roll off the tongue; all brought together in the way only Aussie hip-hop can deliver. There are no pretences, no trying 'to make a dollar off the game', it's music, good 'ol fashioned beats & bass brought together with immaculate delivery.

Maybe it's not going to blow you away, however I am very glad that it's in my library...

cheers, Krs

Ok, this is my first review; but in many ways I can’t think of a more fitting candidate than a debut L.P. The follow up to last years self titled E.P couldn’t be a more fitting edition to the Australian hip hop lexicon. On this album there is something for everyone. Each track has its own feeling and vibe.
The beats provided by DJ Morgs and Fiasko are solid and they deliver them in a way belies the fact that they are newcomers to the recording scene. Jeswon and Tuka deliver rhymes that fit perfectly with the rhymes and at the same time don’t play with over used themes or techniques. in short they rock.
All round this album is a worthy addition to the Aus Hip Hop scene if for nothing else the amount of time these guys where in the scene without an album. Now that they have an album and an excellent live show everyone who is into Aus. Hip Hop should check this out, because these guys deserve greatness.

The Mash

This track was itunes freebee of the week - something I would never have bought normally. But I love it. Probably my song of the summer. Checking out the rest of the album now as we speak.
