Kasey puts a new spin on some old tunes

I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw the track listing for this album when I picked it up today. A few of the titles I recognised and already had in my collection because they have either been singles (True Colours) or appeared as b-sides on other singles (Water In The Fuel, Everything's Turning To White), but most were unfamiliar to me, so I was keen to hear what they sounded like, and I am pleased to say that, for the most part, these are very good songs. Not knowing the originals (except for True Colours and Luka), I cannot compare so I can't say whether Kasey has been faithful to them or not, but regardless, she tackles these songs with her own unmistakable style and the result is a solid album with some real gems. Return Of The Grievous Angel, Guilty, Orphan Girl (a duet with her husband Shane Nicholson), the aforementoned Water In The Fuel and the lovely I Wish It Would Rain (and no, it's not the old Phil Collins song) are all standouts from what is a thoroughly enjoyable album. Another winner from fhe talented Miss Chambers (or should I say Mrs Nicholson), and only one year on from the wonderful Little Bird. But how much longer are we going to have to wait for a hits album? It's been 12 years since The Captain!

Too much American accent spoils the album

Why the over the top American accent? She is an Australian singer...

Story book

Oh my word! Kasey Chambers is a talent in her own right. I love this album.... well done!

In 1976, hoping to earn a living hunting foxes, Bill and Diane Chambers took their two-year-old son Nash and newborn daughter Kasey into the 100,000 square mile (260,000 square km) sparsely vegetated and generally flat plateau called the Nullarbor Plain. The family would spend seven or eight months of the year on the Nullarbor, resupplying...
