iTunes Review

Archie Roach got some of his toughest songs from experience: "Took the Children Away", the standout of his debut album, is about the Australian government forcibly separating the children of indigenous families—something that Roach lived through as a child. Aboriginal struggles are a running theme on this album, whether on the uplifting "Native Born" or the lament "Beautiful Child". Producer Paul Kelly keeps Roach's deep voice and acoustic guitar upfront. "Down City Streets" adds organ and harmonies evoking The Band.

Customer Reviews

Emotion charged, honest storytelling

Archie Roach tells the stories of his people with honesty and beautiful lyrics that makes for an unforgettably moving album.

Terrific strong album - an Aussie Classic

This album is already an Aussie classic and Archie Roach is one of Australia' great storyteller songwriters. "Took the Children Away" has already become an anthem for the 'Stolen Generations' and the song has won a prestigious human rights award. It is a super strong debut album and fortunately the strenth of Roach's songwriting has not let him down with subsequent releases; but if you are only going to buy one album of his, this is it!

Great Listen

A very basic style but Oh so powerful.Great melodies and Lyrics ,this bloke should be more well known a very good album
