EDITORS’ NOTES

Stephen Pearcy’s solo joints always boast flavours distinct from Ratt’s street-tough hair metal, and 2017’s Smash is no exception. The slow-grooving rocker “I Know I’m Crazy” is nestled inside woozy psychedelic guitars and synths, while the acoustic-heavy “What Do Ya Think” unloads tasty Zeppelin-influenced slide work and funky swagger. The riff-slasher “Ten Miles Wide” is the closest Pearcy comes to old-school Ratt, but even that’s got idiosyncratic touches, including crisp power pop harmonies streaking through the chorus.
