Ternion

Ternion

We Have Band’s sophomore album, Ternion, opens with dark melodies and haunting vocals that have more in common with goth-tinged post-punk than the “disco rock” tag the band coined to describe its sound. It’s not until the track “After All” that the London/Manchester trio drops danceable beats alongside Autobahn-inspired analog trimmings. Over this, Dede WP and Darren Bancroft sing disaffectedly cool vocals that sound like Broadcast's late Trish Keenan collaborating with Kraftwerk. “Where Are Your People?” is an infectious standout, where commanding beats are balanced with soaring, romantic melodies sung in demure harmonies. The high-register male vocals, '80s-toned synths, and techno-tinged pulse of “What’s Mine, What’s Yours” may remind you of Erasure until the dynamic layering of otherworldly sounds turns the tune into an innovative original. “Pressure On” blends bygone house trappings with Moogy chirps and drones.
