The next evolution of the band's sound.

DLC have always been a fantastic prog-alt band with a standout sound, but one of their biggest downfalls has always been a bad case of 'every song sounding the same'-itis. The Catalyst Fire goes a long way to remedying that, and more.

Still present are the band's trademark sweeping, reverberating guitar sounds, the soaring vocals of Kim Benzie, and the pounding, mosh-worthy rhythms, but the songs all stand out on their own, each with their own distinct timbre and feel. Everything from the sounds to the structure to even the lyrics are much tighter and better structured. It no longer feels like an uncontrolled stream of consciousness and chords like 'This Is The Warning' seemed at times.

On a personal level, the songs evoked some powerful imagery that touched some pretty potent emotions. 'Burning Man' is bound to become a fist-pumping stadium anthem-esque track at live gigs, 'The Veil' gets the blood pumping with an immersive sense of danger, and first single Lodestar goes back to the bands roots in a way that doesn't feel out of place at all in the album. However, the standout track to me is by far 'I Am', with the lyrical narrative of self-sacrifice for the greater good combined with some gorgeous guitar riffs and building musical and emotional crescendos creating a surprisingly potent mix that is sure to touch listeners.

All in all, this album feels like the next logical step for the band. They established their sound on their self-titled EP and first full-length album, and now they've polished it. Even people who weren't a fan of their earlier works may find this album slightly more to their taste.

Awesome!

Every song ever released by DLC could be a number single. Lost without leaders is no different. Another number one hit!!!

Wetting myself in anticipation

Been listening to DLC since they first began and could not be more excited for this release. By far my favourite Australian band if only for the reason that there is not a single track these guys have released that I could honestly say I don't like or even think is average. Cop everything else they have ever released and then cop this album. Then if you really wanna be blown away, go and see them live. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!
