iTunes Review

In the early ‘00s, Kanye West gained notoriety as a producer-for-hire before The College Dropout shook hip-hop to its core. The mix of styles and subject matter is breathtaking. Pop hits rub up against vulnerable moments. Street anthems mingle with wild humor. And “Jesus Walks” challenges beliefs like no other rap song before it. In the hands of a lesser artist, The College Dropoout might have ended a career. Kanye West attacks the set with confidence and conviction—a beacon of things to follow.

Kayne West has been heralded as the Diddy of 2005, and I would have to agree. His music is thoughtful, meaningful and pretty darn good. Songs such as 'Diamonds from Sierra Leone' and 'Through the Wire' are examples of how he reflects upon his situation to write chart topping songs. A good album to get if you like his style.

His dapper fashion sense set him apart from many of his rap peers, and his confidence often came across as boastful or even egotistical, albeit amusingly so. This flamboyance, of course,...
