Album Review

Arriving just 15 months after his last collabos album (Sickology 101), nine months after his last official album (K.O.D.), four months after a remix EP (The Lost Scripts of K.O.D.), and probably just days after he got off one of his never-ending tours, the high-quality Gates Mixed Plate finds eccentric rapper Tech N9ne in the “prolific” category, but not the “overly prolific” category. If that doesn’t seem like a feat, take into consideration that there are no less than 21 quality tracks included here and Tech himself goes hard the whole way, even when he could coast on the skills of all his collabo partners. Top it off with one of Tech’s few solo tracks, the party-starter “O.G.,” being the supreme highlight and the man’s ability to churn it out is nothing if not impressive. Plus he’s cool enough to drop a Zapp reference (“Get her hot and ready/Listening to Roger Troutman”) and smart enough to return to some good-time music after the great but horribly dark K.O.D. All that said, his collabos series is comprised of very loose albums when compared to his normal releases, so give it a try once you’ve checked his regular output.

hes back

Oh got the industry in the palm of of his hands, the KC king Tech N9ne. How else in the rap game puts out albums to show of other underground rappers, which other rapper puts out an album every year. tech n9ne is the best rapper in the game today, and hes got his rock/rap album coming out at the end of the year. Tech can not be touched, now all iTunes has to do is get Cognitos album Automatic and Kutt Calhouns album Raw and UN-Kutt cause they are all on the same record label as Tech. This album has so many guests on it guys like Kutt Calhoun, Krizz Kaliko, BG Bulletwound, The Popper, Irv Da Phenom, DJ Chill, Alan Wayne, Stevie Stone, Devin The Dude, Jay Rock, Yukmouth, Big Scoob, Craig Smith, Sundae and Riv Locc. All in all this is a great album, some people may not like the new party Tech, i for one don't mind that he has left his dark place, cause at the end of the day its what ever makes Tech Happy. Plus he still has the same sick flow that he has had for years, can't wait till Tech comes back to Australia. Strange Music all day every day till the day i die

Tech n9ne best rapper alive

T-T-Tech N9ne!

Well i wouldnt say he's back. He never left!, his music is so consistent that the only thing that has changed are the beats and the way his albums and projects are being produced. K.O.D, Sickology 101 and this album have been put together well. Although i find that Sickology was a vicious album with a lot of bite. The gates mix plate is the album you would listen to after Sickology to get those smooth tracks into you and relax.

While he debuted in the underground realm of horrorcore and seemed destined to be a future footnote, rapper Tech N9ne grew to be an indie rap superstar. In the process, he built his Strange Music label into a Psychopathic Records-styled empire with an accompanying loyal fan base, but when it comes to influence, Tech arguably topped underground trailblazers Insane Clown Posse thanks to collaborations with mainstream artists and a style that evolved from horrorcore to hardcore and confessional.
