iTunes Review

Bernard Fanning is blessed with a soul man’s voice, but he never overdoes it on 2005’s Tea & Sympathy. Like vintage songs from Rod Stewart or the Faces, “Sleeping Rough” and “Hope and Validation” are rollicking rock ’n’ roll tunes played with ragged ease. The gentle “Watch Over Me” has the intimacy of a lullaby, but Fanning shows that he can still cut loose, especially on the punched-up power pop of “Wish You Well” and the Bowie-esque glam rock of “Which Way Home?”

Excellent!

Scratch what I wrote before, I've bought it, and I love it. Bernard Fanning is a brilliant songwriter, he's come so far since Parables For Wooden Ears. Anyone who's got that Powderfinger album will know what I'm talking about. These 14 songs are beautifully written, and show that one of Australia's great rock'n'roll frontmen has another side to him.

Don't Expect Powderfinger

Not many of the songs on this album could have worked on a Powderfinger album. So don't expect more Finger here. Still, it's worth the money. Fannings raw vocal quality shines as does his song-writing. I hope that helps.

My album of the year

This is a great album of refreshing, mainly acoustic music, that reveals the diversity of styles that Bernard Fanning is capable of. Anyone who loves Powderfinger songs such as 'Whatever Makes You Happy' and the acoustic version of 'Sunsets' on the Vulture street DVD, will love this album. I hope Bernard continues to follow these msucial paths along with his Powderfinger work. A great Australian album.
