A must have album

This album stands totally by itself. There's nothing else that sounds like it, not when it was released and not now. While "There She Goes" is the song most people are familiar with and rightly so as it's one of the most catchy, short and sweet love songs (if that's what it is ;) around, the other songs on the album are just as infectios. Mavers lyrics are great while being a bit quirky and the melodies on the whole record are just gorgeous. And something that a lot of bands have forgotten. Short songs leave you wanting more. The only song on the whole lp that tops 5 minutes is Looking Glass. Everything else is usually less than 3. And that's really cool. If you're tired of all the doom and gloom merchants propogating the airways, tired of bling bling hip hop, teen girls rabbiting on about love etc, do yourself a favour and buy album that features some really nice playing, great lyrics and tunes you'll be humming long after you turn the CD, iPod, car stereo off. 10/10 and then some. Formed: 1986 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

Drawing from the hook-laden, ringing guitars of mid-'60s British pop as well as the post-punk pop of the Smiths, the La's' self-titled first album had a timeless, classic feel. It seemed like effortless music, yet that was not the case. From their inception in 1986, lead singer/guitarist/songwriter Lee Mavers was a perfectionist with a nearly obsessive eye for detail....
