EDITORS’ NOTES

Odette’s debut album, To a Stranger, is about a damaging period in the 21-year-old Sydney artist’s life. Backed by little more than piano and strings, she shares her story of vulnerability and strength, on an album named after a Walt Whitman poem. It’s fitting, then, that some of its strongest moments arrive as spoken word. On “Watch Me Read You”, she declares: “The burning pages of my life/Reduced to ash/And overnight/I find my body is not mine.”
