Released ten days before Valentine's Day 2002, Jim Brickman's Valentine is a collection containing re-recordings of some of his more popular tracks with an eye toward serving as a romantic background to those celebrating the holiday. It is a mixture of solo piano performances like "Sundown" and "Reflection" with tracks in a contemporary jazz vein ("Valentine") and adult contemporary vocal songs ("To Hear You Say You Love Me," "You," "Love of My Life") by guest vocalists including Martina McBride. Old fans can skip this set of retreads, but casual fans may find it serves its purpose well.

Though classically trained, pianist Jim Brickman prefers to play more pop-flavored, gently lyrical new age music. His unique compositions are emotional and structured, but not rigidly so. The focus was on classical music, but Brickman could not escape the lure of mainstream music, and at age 19 began writing commercial jingles.
