Album Review

Most would agree that the majority of renowned rock acts specialize in a certain sound/style, and choose to stick to it from the beginning to the end of their careers. And as far as industrial metal acts go, Rammstein are a solid example, as you know pretty much what's in store with each new release by the band. So when longtime Rammstein leader Richard Kruspe announced he was going to launch a solo project, Emigrate, you would think it was because he must have had a healthy amount of material that did not fit in the Rammstein mold that he wanted to get out. Upon listening to Emigrate's self-titled debut, this doesn't necessarily prove to the case, as it's an album that is not far removed at all from the group's signature sound. Case in point, the chug-chugging riff roller coaster "My World," as well as "Resolution." And as with most hard rockers, a melodic detour or two is crucial to the possibility of crossover success, and here, "Let Me Break" manages to walk the fine line between melody and metal. Emigrate probably won't pull in many non-Rammstein fans, but it will certainly satisfy the appetites of the group's legion of fans for the time being.

Customer Reviews

Welcome back Richard !

So great to see something new from one of the Rammstein members !! This is as good as anything they have ever done ....

More than Rammstein

I disagree that this will not appeal to non-Rammstein fans. The music is just different enough to work, and the fact that it is in English will certainly help. Emigrate Rocks!!

I'm Emigrate-ing!

Of course this "won't stray far from" the sound of Rammstein, because essentially thats what this is, the founder and leader of Rammstein. Richard Kruspe is responsible for shaping the sound of Rammstein because that is his guitar work and song-writing, of course his style would carry over to his solo work, its his sound, guitar work and song writing! Lovers of Rammstein will love Emigrate in general, especially the english speaking fans! peace and love Dayz out

A side project from Rammstein member Richard Kruspe, Emigrate first became an idea in 2001 but didn't become possible until 2005 when Rammstein decided to take some time off from recording and touring. A year later subscribers to Rammstein's email newsletter were offered the Emigrate track "My World" as a free download. In 2007 the gritty, aggressive song landed on the Resident...
