Catchy, electric pop

Eden Boucher and David Turley are Lovers Electric, a London-based pop duo whose name sums up their style of music. Their debut album is a mix of 80s-influenced electronic and dance pop with plenty of catchy tracks that should appeal to many listeners. The album opens with Start Again which is one of the standout tracks on the album. It’s followed by their first single, Honey, which is initiated by electrifying guitars and plenty of energy. Subsequent tracks follow the same electronic synthesised pop formula and continues with the same level of energy although tracks like Is It Over, Whatever You Want and Closer are clearly more mellow but nonetheless still a great listen. Pop ballad Closer showcases Boucher’s soothing vocals and are nicely accompanied by an emotionally-compelling piano accompaniment and strings. All the tracks are driven by Boucher’s powerful and accent-heavy vocals (that are reminiscent of Missy Higgins) and assisted by Turley’s guitar, piano and occasional backup vocals. Their music is like a female version of the Killers. While Whatever You Want won’t strike as something original, the album is still a solid effort by Lovers Electric with its upbeat, sing-along tunes.
