The ATO app puts tax and super help in your hand, making it easier for you to conduct your tax and super affairs on the go.

The app has many features. You can:
- record and manage expenses and trips relating to your work as an employee, your business as a sole trader or other general expenses. Sole traders can also record income.
- upload your myDeductions records to your tax return at tax time or email a copy to your tax agent
- enrol your voiceprint with the ATO. You can then use this to verify your identity when you call us or to log in to our online services for individuals via the app
- calculate the amount of tax to withhold from salary and wage payments
- search for an Australian business number (ABN) using ABN Lookup
- work out key dates and set important reminders and alerts for tax and super obligations
- use the Business performance check tool to compare your business with similar businesses in your industry using the latest Small business benchmarks
- watch videos, access checklists and visit SMSF assist for other helpful information for SMSF trustees
- access a number of other useful tools and calculators.

* GPS can be used to record trips in myDeductions. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Some features in the app will request access to functions on your device, including your location, microphone or calendar. For example, to record a trip in myDeductions using the GPS option, the app needs access to your device location.

The ATO app can automatically send usage data to us to help improve its services. You may choose to turn this off at any time.

If you have any questions or feedback about the ATO app, email us at We cannot discuss your personal tax affairs.

Poor excuse for something helpful

You can't access anything, the app takes you to the myGov website. What's the point of not be able to do anything on the app itself. And I already know you can track expenses but that's really not that impressive.

Deleted as useless

Trip is locked into only accepting a vehicle! Very limited view of expenses. I wanted to track my conference trip expenses - this app was recommended on the website. Complete joke! Looks good but limited value in the real world.

Developer Response

Hi, thanks for your feedback. The ‘Add trip’ function is for recording vehicle trips. For expenses, you will need to select ‘Add expense’. Then, if you incurred these expenses as an employee, you can record travel expenses (such as meals and accommodation) under the ‘Travel expenses’ category or the actual cost of the conference under ‘Other work-related expenses’ category. If you’re a business, those expenses can be recorded under ‘All other expenses’. Visit our website to check what you’re eligible to claim. If you need help using the tool or have any other feedback, you can email us directly at

Good thing I kept all my originals

I had to reinstall the app because it wouldn’t reload after restoring my iPhone. Good thing I’d kept all my original receipts and counted on this piece of garbage to assist. What a waste of time.

Developer Response

Hi, I’m sorry to hear you’ve experienced issues with the app. Because all data and photos of receipts are stored on your device, we highly recommend that you regularly back up your records somewhere safe. This will protect you in case you can't access the data on your device anymore - for example, if you lose your phone, or accidentally delete your photos. We have just released a new version of the app making backing up and restoring easier.
