Carat 2.01 can also show App Recommendations on iOS 9.0 through 9.3.2!

Our next release will include settings recommendations for iOS 9.3.3+. We are already collecting the data for this, so stay tuned!

Carat is the first app to generate personalized recommendations for improving your battery life. After observing your use of the device for *a week or more*, it will start to generate reports just for you. You should open the app once every day or so, with an Internet connection turned on, until you start seeing results.

Although Carat uses Location Services (thus displaying the little icon), it is NOT using your GPS and is NOT running in the background. The app uses almost no power.

** Thank you! **

Ever wondered why your battery is draining so quickly? Just install Carat, open it every few days with an Internet connection turned on so it can send data to our servers, and within a week Carat will start recommending Actions (just for you!) and even predicting the improvements you will see. Although Carat cannot measure energy use directly, it infers what apps are responsible using advanced machine learning methods.

And it's free!

As you use your device, Carat occasionally takes measurements and sends them to our backend servers in the cloud, where we apply cutting-edge algorithms to determine what steps you can take to use less energy. By collecting snippets of non-personal data from a large number of devices, Carat does not need to run continuously in the background. Nothing we collect identifies you, personally.

Carat will tell you which apps generally use a lot of energy and and those that specifically do so on your device (but not on most others). This does not make an app 'bad', but this advice can help a user improve their battery life.

== Carat Features ==

- Action List telling you how to improve your battery life and by how much
- Device information detailing exactly what data we are recording
- Reports apps that are using lots of energy and whether that is happening on other devices, too
- Detail views let you dive down into the data
- Low-overhead sampling requires almost no energy or CPU
- J-Score tells you how your battery efficiency compares to other users
- Sharing features let you post/tweet/blog about your experience; more users means more data which means better recommendations for you

Carat is under active development by a team of researchers in University of Helsinki. We are constantly making improvements, adding features, and giving you more knowledge about how your device is using energy. Remember, knowledge is power!

Ratings and Reviews

I think its okay ...

This is my first review of this app. i has been using this app for exactly 2 months now( i keep this app on 24/7 for 2 months). like what the developers promises that to collect data for "a week or more". they do not specify how long the word "more" could take. I let them collect data for whatever i uses everyday for 1 month before receiving any report back. For first few weeks after looking at ( constant ) report they keep sending me. I found it quite disappointing. Its not really accurate and very confusing. But i still insist to use it ... 3 weeks later ( last week from today) the apps start giving me rather promising report. i know this app is very bad in term of their UI ; may be they developer busy analysing the data. They do not have time to tweaks their app. So be patience, give it one more chance. I think developers from UC Berkeley still rushing to make further improvements and make it work for everyone :)

dont get me wrong, this is just my personal opinion of this app ...

Great app. Does what it says

You do need to wait a couple of weeks before you start to get results (as it says) as it has to gather data on your phones usage to be able to work out what apps are hogging your battery. As long as you open it every so often and leave it "running" in the app switcher tray, you'll eventually start to get some results.
That's when the app really gets interesting. From after you get your first results you'll start to get regular updates on your phone from then on.

You just need to be patient to begin with. I know that in this modern age, patience is rare for most people, bit if you hang in there you'll get some useful results. Please give the app a chance!! :)

Good, but...

My phone is only a couple months old and I'm trying not to load it up with unnecessary apps, so I didn't expect it to have many suggestions.
Annoyingly, it pops up every 10-12 days telling me there are new recommendations, but when I open it the only thing it tells me is to upgrade iOS. Which, y'know, I will, but I have to wait til they release an upgrade! Otherwise it just keeps telling me to be patient.
Not sure if it's not doing anything, or if there's not anything for it to do.
