Ratings and Reviews

Very well done

This app is so much fun for anyone—ah—over a certain age.

I have two feature suggestions:

1. The ability to run an a full screen split view with two terminals side by side would be so good on a wide screen monitor. I currently run two windows, but it’s not as nice.
2. The effects can really run down your laptop battery, an option to automatically switch to efficient low-quality rendering when on battery power would be great.

Very good app, would recommend !

Very fun app for writing and messing around on.

A retro computing classic

I just acquired my first Mac in over 20 years. My work bought the Mac: it must cost about $4,000. The first must-have App that I bought (with my own money) was this one that makes it look, sound and feel like a 1970's terminal. Or my home computer from 1984. The irony isn't lost on me.

Some people spend thousands to restore old cars. I guess this is the same. It's partly a nostalgic feeling, and partly an admiration for simplerw more elegant engineering. I'm no petrol head, but I can empathise with that aesthetic.

I'm writing this review using Blinky, which is by the same author. It's free, you should get it for an idea of what Cathode is about. You can even edit text with it :-) But for the full "Unix” experience with a shell, you should at least try the free version of Cathode.

I really like this App. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside as I type on this sleek ultra-modern, Cylon-like MacBook Pro that now looks so warm and inviting, like an Amstrad CPC, or a BBC B. Or even recalling late nights in front of an amber DEC VT-220 terminal at Uni.

If you are old enough to remember any of that, you'll really like this, trust me.
