A tool needed by any developer, Compare lets you perform side-by-side comparison and merge of your directories, files, and their content. It lets you see changes down to the character level and copy changes between two different versions of a file as needed.

This lightweight application features clean interface with easy to understand controls and icons, no bloat (such as image or sound wave comparison, built in emacs editor, etc) and does not require you to create and manage projects. Just select or drag-and-drop in two items onto it and you're ready to compare and merge. It also remembers all recent items for each side so you can perform repeated comparisons easily.

OK but is slow to scan external hard drives

Works OK but is just too slow. Takes too long to read external hard disk contents for comparison and lags my quad-core i7 with 8GB RAM! I've got the fastest laptop Apple make, how much horsepower do I neeed!?

I wish there was some documentation or button hints

This program is a good idea particularly when you're learning from a tutorial. You can compare the tutorial code with you're own and find out where you went wrong. I bought it today. Unfortunately, as there is no documentation, I'm struggling to understand what the different buttons do. I was amused when I pressed the Help Button to read that "Help isn't available for Compare". Mmmmm! Oh well I'll just have to work it out for myself. I think a pop-up hint when you hover over a button would be nice. Another problem I had was where a line was highlighted in red, which means there is a mis-match, however, I couldn't see the error.
