Daybreak - excellent alcohol free resource

I discovered Daybreak 6 weeks in to my alcohol free journey. I was a grey area drinker. Didn’t drink every day, I wasn’t physically dependent but I was still dependent on alcohol on my life. I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. For 6 weeks I felt alone and afraid but better for not drinking. Started Googling “am I am alcoholic?” and stumbled upon Hello Sunday Morning, which led me to registering for Daybreak. A recommendation by a user on this App had me ordering William Porter’s book Alcohol Explained. I think that saved my life. Indeed it has given me a second chance at the rest of my life. This App is such a supportive non-judgmental safe space where anonymity and respect is at its core. The Admin team are incredibly dedicated to making sure our posts are not triggering or inappropriate. I cannot recommend this App more highly. I’ve told GPs about it. It should be more widely known and shared. My world opened up after 6 weeks on my own in a very scary space. I’m now 3+years in and have not had one sip of alcohol. My life is amazing. I have such confidence in my alcohol free lifestyle, am proud of how I present myself in the world and have a real sense of freedom. From the challenges, I now realise I am capable of anything. I’m still on the App and love to pay it forward. I learned so much from the people further down the sober road than me, and I am still contributing and sharing my story, tips and advice.

Daybreak is a life-saver

I’ve been a member of this community for 324 days and I know this has meant the difference between success and failure. In the early days, the encouragement I received from the other members helped me on my journey. As time went on, by encouraging others, it reinforced my own conscious and subconscious thoughts. The trip to sobriety is a very personal, and at times, lonely one, even with family support. It is only the support and understanding of this community that has enabled me to find success. Of course, my family are very proud of me and my sobriety, but they don’t really realise just how tough at times this journey can be. I’ve learned so much about myself - I’m more understanding and compassionate with others, but most importantly with myself. My past is my past and I now live for each and every glorious, precious day. Thank you Daybreak, you saved my life. 😊

My Sobriety Journey

.... is probably like most here at DB, but it’s up and it’s down. Living life and reflecting on alcohol and how I have used it in the past when I’m up and when I’m down. DB has helped keep me on the straight and narrow. Just the constant reminders of why I’m on this shared path with these very cool people, and the words of encouragement and support in times of need (like tonight when I nearly cracked). It’s an interesting journey so far - in fact it’s both cathartic and empowering). I am learning so much about myself and the role alcohol has played and my relationships with it (note plural). The biggest realization is knowing I don’t actually need to drink. Life is simply better without it.
