Promising - Do your research
This is a really promising and handy app, very user friendly and my initial assessment was very good. Months later I still think so BUT you will need to do your research before embracing it wholeheartedly and work out if it will be right for you…ideally BEFORE you enter detailed records on all your livestock. Currently it only works on iPad and iPhone. This seems okay but when entering large numbers there is no getting around that it would be faster and easier on a PC. My mistake in not thinking ahead. The second issue is a biggie…you can’t print the numbers you have, or the livestock in paddocks…just can’t print. I wrote to the developer in February and was told both issues would be addressed in coming updates. I subscribed so data would sync. As yet still can’t print. Developer is very responsive and great to deal with. There’s lots to like here BUT I wish I had realised that I couldn’t total livestock numbers or print before I invested so much time in this particular app as it just doesn’t work when we have to double enter data to report to accountants. Great concept that needs further development.
This app is a highly usable tool to aid with stock care, record keeping and management of your property. Can sync across multiple devices which currently is a manual operation (soon To automatic). Has a couple of things to fix but developer is open to suggestion and feedback so I have no doubt that it will soon be a five star app.
Just a thought from someone who has lived her life in Farm Manager the last couple of months...
I have been entering cattle data into this app for months now to try and bring our properties up into the technology era. At first it seems main stream and easy to use, however after entering hundreds of animals into the app on my iPad as it doesn't have a computer compatible program it seems clumsy and just falls short of my patience. When you bring cattle into the yard you don't just immunise one animal out of a 100 (well we don't) you usually immunise all but instead of having a batch option you have to manually enter every animal individually with its event. I have some animals that might have 5 'events' in the one day.... very time consuming, the worst part is you can't print the data or report it in a spread sheet. You can't link cow to calf either just writing the details in on the individual animal... very annoying when you are trying to implement the app in the yards and you have to enter them manually, it should have a 'family tree' type outlook so that you can do away with pen and paper.... It also doesn't give you an insight into your breeding program with growth or decline of your herd, you have to use another program which increase my work load when this all came about to decrease my work load.... It also doesn't seem to (forgive me if this is an option..) have an area where you can connect a stick reader via Bluetooth to the app and record the cattle this way, which would be great for the movement of your herds as well as keeping track as you could batch the NLIS for treatment purposes plus join the NLIS and ear tags so that they are traceable with ease as well as having a backup if they happen to disappear… Overall this entire app is perfect if you have used it from day one of your business starting and do little to no vet work, immunisations or processes to your cattle. It isn’t user friendly if you process a lot of cattle with them having vet work, immunisations, and process or if you concentrate on your breeding as well as trying to predict the future of your herd….
