FrogID is Australia’s first national citizen science frog identification initiative – a project led by the Australian Museum in partnership with Australia’s leading natural history museums and IBM.
Use the App to create a profile, record frog calls and match your calls to the frog calls on the app. Then upload your records to the Australian Museum frog experts for species verification.
With your help we can put more frog species on the map and track changes to their species and habitats over time, and therefore monitor our waterway's health.
Thanks for all your feedback, we are always trying to make FrogID better and your help makes that happen.
This update of FrogID includes improvements to recording uploads.

great idea but...
Hi guys. Downloaded app fine. Recorded sounds fine. Press submit- goes into submitted folder but status says "not submitted" when I go into the sound byte so not sure if it sent or not.
it's been over 3 weeks since I submitted my first sounds but no verification from the museum yet. I'm sure it's just because they are busy, but I have no way of knowing. So I'm reluctant to do any more recordings.
The app crashes frequently which is disappointing.
If you apply too many filters to frogs near me, you can't listen to other frog sounds when trying to id frogs after recording. If a new frog is in your area you have no way of matching it to sounds outside your filtered frogs near me.
Great concept, I am still excited by participating in this survey but the bugs need to be fixed please. Maybe we can get the frogs to eat the bugs!
Frog id on iphone 6 and updated
Recorded dozens of frogs but could never get them sent. Tried many different things and did as suggested by frog id staff but nothing has worked. Internet connection always ok here. Today have reset password, deleted app and downloaded again so will see if anything works. All my recordings have gone and none in database at frog id end. It would have been more sensible to have been able to save a backup of the calls in dropbox or similar or to save via itunes to pc.
....waiting for the next rainband to try again to see if it works this time.
My initial unbounded enthusiasm to track down differing habitats and frogs has waned for now. I will try to do a recording using frog id and another using the normal iphone recording app each time i come across a frog until it is sorted out.
Great idea, infuriating details.
So here’s the scenario, a new frog has taken up residence in a small strip of garden next to the driveway outside my home. It’s very loud, but stops calling if you get too close for too long. I thought this app would be perfect.
So when I hear it, and you can hear it from anywhere in the house, even on the second floor, I grab my phone head down and open FrogID - to be presented with a completely unresponsive app, that spends 20 seconds or so doing background activity, before bringing up a dialogue asking if I want to download the online resources. Hell NO, I don’t want to download resources, I just want the record function to be live the moment the app is launched.
It doesn’t matter how many times I choose not to download the online content, it asks again, every single launch.
If all it did was the call recording and analysis / identification, this would be a 5 star app. Unfortunately, it’s dragged down by all the other stuff that gets in the way at the critical moment you need the app to be responsive.
Developer Response ,
Hi There, Thanks for your feedback. Improving the usability of the app is important to us, and we will take this on board as we continue to evolve. Thanks, Adam (FrogID Team)
