Description

If you’ve used the copy/paste functions in Mac OS before, you’ll appreciate how valuable Get Plain Text is! We use it ourselves every day. This app will lower your stress level and save you tons of time!
---Ready for Yosemite!---

Get Plain Text is a practical utility program to process text within Mac OS: It converts copied text into plain text.

It instantly removes everything unneeded: colours, typeface size, style (for example, boldface/italics), hyper-links, images, etc. In other words, everything that isn’t plain text! Now you can put plain text in your letters and documents using the copy/paste functions, without having to clean it up manually.

Get Plain Text will convert any bit of text into plain text, no matter where you copied it from (a website, PDF document or elsewhere). You can activate the feature manually, or check “Automatically remove formatting” to make the app take care of it every time you copy something.

What’s New

My long search, at an end

I’ve been looking for an app that does this for so long, and there’s any number of tutorials that suggest assigning the command-v shortcut to “paste and match style”, which breaks image pasting.

This app does exactly what you know in your heart you want more than anything else - to banish pasting with source style, back to whatever damned hellscape spawned it as an idea.

Noone needs “paste with source style”, noone wants “paste with source style”, yet some dark cabal, possibly cultists from an 1980s action movie starring Sylvester Stallone, have insisted that we all live in a world in which “paste with source style” is the way things are. Well, no more!

You can fight back, with Get Plain Text. After you install it, just check “Start at Login” and “Automatically Clear Formatting” in its menulet, the display of which you can even disable, and then you never have to worry about your carefully formatted documents being ruined by pasting content into them. You can command-v to your heart’s content, safe in the knowledge that style will never sully your clipboard again.

Of course it has manual controls, if you ever find a case in which you NEED to copy & paste styles with text. I can’t think of one, but you know, fish and frog rain has been documented, so strange things do happen from time to time.

Simple and very handy indeed!

What a great little trick! Yes, this should be a standard feature on the Mac. Really handy for quick-copying stuff into programs such as Evernote, where webpage formatting does strange things. I used to have to cut and paste into Text Edit (plain text mode) to remove formatting and then cut and paste it back into Evernote; likewise for taking text from Word (notorious for bloated formatting) to paste into a web page (where you really MUST have clean plain text).

This should be a standard part of the OS and iOS

Love it. Simple and easy.

I don’t need to resort to Text Edit or Mail as a third app to wash away chronically bloated formatting in other apps, especially MS Office apps.

Don’t even question the price for this app, just buy it and let the frustration of crazy cut-an’-paste formatting float out of your working day.
