The Melbourne Pollen Count App provides real-world pollen count data during the Melbourne grass pollen season (October 1 to December 31) from 6 pollen counting stations from around Victoria that are run by the School of BioSciences at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
The Melbourne Pollen App also provides a year-round 7-day forecast of grass pollen levels for Melbourne and a next day forecast for Victorian country areas. We now provide a forecast for potential thunderstorm asthma events and advise users of predicted high pollen days and thunderstorm asthma using push notifications.
Our users can also help us with our research by telling us how they are feeling via our hay fever symptom survey. Information collected by the survey helps us better understand the relationship between our pollen count and how pollen is affecting the community.
We've refreshed the look of the App, and added 7-day forecasts at each of our pollen trap locations.
Ratings and Reviews
I love this app! Both me and my young son get hay-fever, which aggravates our asthma and this app has been a godsend. I can tell when we should avoid going out and also prepare for the worst. Thank you so much, you have no idea how much this app means to us.
Enough with notifications at midnight
You told us it's no longer pollen season so why am I getting survey reminder notifications - and why at midnight ? I have notification alerts set on in case something like the thunderstorm asthma even happens again - but I do NOT want midnight noisy reminders to do surveys. This is a Melb based ap. Set your timings for business hours EST. otherwise I'm deleting.
Thanks for your review. Our notifications are delivered using a third party algorithm which determines when you use your device most frequently. In this case, perhaps something has gone wrong.
We agree that it would be good to have some settings to tailor notification to you. Hopefully, we can attract further funding to develop this App further and make these changes.
Nifty little app
Good improvements! Useful and local info. Please include in daily survey "did you have asthma symptoms today?" as often on high pollen days I often have asthma but no "typical" hayfever symptoms and have to answer the hayfever question "no symptoms".
