Mental is a concept mapping app for the iPad.

Concept maps organize knowledge in the form of a graph of concepts. Concepts are represented as a noun phrase enclosed in a rectangular box, and are connected to other concept boxes by arrows labeled with a verb or conjunction. These arrows and labels define the relationships between the connected concepts. Concept boxes may have relationships to and from several other concept boxes, creating a graph of concepts, or concept map.

Users create concept maps as autosaved documents. In a concept map, they are able to create and remove concept boxes, edit the enclosed text, and move the boxes at will around a zoomable and pannable canvas.

They can create relationships to connect the concepts, a relationship being represented by at least three graphical objects:
⁃ an editable label signifying the relationship;
⁃ one or more edges connecting the 'subject' concepts to the label;
⁃ one or more edges connecting the label to the 'object' concepts.
Users are able to move the labels at will, the edge connections being preserved. They may remove relationships as a whole, or individual edges while preserving the relationship.

Other features:
⁃ export to pdf and sharing;
⁃ map style chooser (font, color scheme).

Ratings and Reviews

Still the only genuine concept mapping app in the Appstore

This is the only app that makes real CONCEPT MAPS, not just mind maps. Mind maps are everywhere and terribly overhyped. They are supposed to allow you to, well, map your mind. But in fact a mind map is a rigid and inflexible hierarchy - it's just a visual representation of a tree structure, like the folder - file structure of a file system. Your mind doesn't work like that. A concept map is a lot more flexible. ANY node can be related to any other, by ANY RELATION you want. A 'mind map' has only one relation, basically 'this box is in this other one over here'. Try it out.

In terms of features this app is pretty basic. It gets the job done but with no bells and whistles.
It is a real shame that mind mapping apps are so popular. Most of them could be tweaked easily into genuine concept mappers. But for now the ultra hype rules the day.

Clean and fast Freeform workflow

Can i have a copy document feature in the next update please. I use several base diagrams I would like to use as templates instead of rerdawing.
