Request for the game
Hello devs, just wondering but I’m now onto the second city for a while and at the moment the only thing I’m lacking is silver as in coins. This is just my best thing but when battling orcs in the levels I’m wondering if you could make a bonus like x2 on first try when the thing refreshes more orcs. Like once a week sorta thing, so like every Saturday you can win more coins blah blah blah.
But everything else is great, I now got enough orcs to just cut heads and get runes. Specially love how some orcs are just op compared to others, like I only have one overlord I branded and he is the first to be the best in the lot.
Also another suggestion is to add a monthly challenge to brand a hard orc that actually worth getting. So probably only easy for like level 20s and up will have it an okay of a time but anyone below can try there best. Also I feel as though the orcs you pull in a too weak, as in the die quickly and do little damage (which I guess is something but wish for a little better for them)
Calibrated for maximum dollar extraction
I’ve been playing the game for a couple of months now and I have to admire the science that has gone into tempting players with in-app purchases to get content that would otherwise take dozens of hours of play. The most clever is the use of well known characters from Middle-Earth as premium characters (eg Gandalf, Aragorn) while offering lesser known characters (eg Lady Marwen, Baranor) as the more accessible free ones.
Something I find disappointing is that the game goes exclusively with gambling-style loot boxes, where you have no guarantee of what you’ll get - one player mentioned it took him about $100 to unlock Legolas. There are some packs that guarantee certain characters, but they start at over $30.
Gameplay is OK, though does get repetitive fairly quickly. It’s telling that the grind becomes so heavy that a ‘raid’ option allows you to skip play and just collect level rewards. This is so useful that you can unlock a ‘multi-raid’ that gives you the rewards of playing the level ten times over with a single button. I use it a lot.
There are now online events to win prizes, though these are really just competitions to see which individual or teams spend the most money during the event. You can forget it if you don’t plan on spending up big.
This is a free-to-play game, so I can’t complain too much about the devs wanting to recoup their investment. Just recognize it for what it is.
Energy gated, IAP heavy
I’ve played this game for the first couple of months it came out and I think I understand what parts of the game are there to stay.
LOTR is a great IP with huge star power and a growing game franchise, but there’s very little to do in this game other than attempting to unlock new characters or grinding out energy for ring glyphs.
It could be one lucky free daily chance, or hundreds of dollars before you unlock Aragon.
Energy recharges very slowly and it’s possible to spend all of it with a few button presses. It’s not uncommon to spend your all your energy in just one minute then having to wait till tomorrow till it’s full again.
The IAP deals are at a very high price point, often exceeding 30,60,90 or 180 AUS dollars per bundle. They are generally inaccessible for most people and have limited efficacy in-game.
The gameplay is not very interactive and the plot is extremely bare bones. I’d expect the devs to add more guild or player competitions (which seem like bidding wars) or new characters in future, but nothing of substance.
I feel bad for the people who invested so heavily in this game knowing that no mobile game can stay online or supported forever.
