Ratings and Reviews

Good but not perfect - Value for Money!

Motion 5 needs LOTS of Ram to work. I had 4Gb and in my Macbook Pro and it would lock up and freeze my entire Mac all the time. As soon as I put 8Gb in, the problem was solved.

There are a few stupidities, such as they rewrote the software and mistakenly made the keyframe editor so that it can never be turned off. You should be able to move all your keyframes as a global with the Keyframe editor turned off as it was when it was first shipped. The other issue is with borders etc, in that they do not border what is keyed, specific to when you bring in PSD artwork - it is bordering the frame that the matte is contained in.

Overall, for cost, it is an awesome software and I recommend the purchase. It has some easy to use functions, which speed up the process, but of course easy turns to more restrictive. Unless you are happy to just roll over and accept almost right, you will have to revert to more powerfully variable software for high end tasks, which is a shame, since I believe the capability is here with a bit of thoughful writing and adaption.

Wrecked Compressor

I have read several concerns regarding the lack of Pro features in Final Cut, Motion and Compressor, and that Apple seem to have simply produced cheaper and less feature rich versions of existing products. But never one to go by second hand complaints wanted to see for myself. I knew that these products would overwrite the old versions so I thought I would start with Motion. I don't use it so even if the App becomes unworkable it won't interupt my workflow.

Sadly installing the new Motion has uninstalled parts of compressor so it now does not work at all with Final Cut. NOT HAPPY! If an app is going to have such catastrophic consequences for other programs it should be flagged more throughly. Though, for my money multiple versions should run in tandem. Apple have a habit of removing components from applications in one upgrade and then replacing them in another, so to keep a tried and trusted version would get more people trying and buying and less negative comments.

I have just bought and installed the new compressor, but this has not fixed the Final Cut 7 connectivity. Thanks Apple for giving me an even longer afternoons work than necessary...

Great For The Price

I was a little skeptical buying this software, mainly because of the price, 50 bucks is considered very cheap in any video compositing standard. so i bought the app, and after a few days of using it i can defintley say that it is money well spent, it is like a miniature version of after effects but it has everything you need, motion tracking, good chroma keying, animation, title creation, adding effects in 2D & 3D space, And LOADS more. The price for this app just blows every other compositing software out of the water, im not saying its better then after effects, but it is very good for the small price. It works great with Final Cut Pro X and runs smooth as butter on my Macbook Pro 13” Retina with 8GB of ram, i am very happy with this purchase and would recomend it to any video editor working with FCPX or just anyone who wants to add awesome effects and boost the quality of their video’s up. Thanks.
