Still need some work and features
The application and MusicCast itself isn’t too bad. However it can definitely do with some updates and new features.
I’d like to see support for connection directly to a server share, I.e SMB so you play all your files directly and no need for a DLNA server in the middle. This would also help with the playback of DSD files since most dlna server don’t understand it.
When using DLNA, it would be great for a search option to look up songs on the server. Also a search bar if direct file share is ever added too.
And the big one, especially for iOS uses is the ability to add AppleMusic as a service directly, like Sonos do and not just AirPlay, but baked into the application itself. Sonos do it, so I’m sure it can be done.
Overall, the UI needs some tweaking to make things more simple, there are lots of taps to do things. Hate to go back to the Sonos app, but it’s worth Yamaha taking look at its powerful but simplistic approach.
Please keep up the updating and advancement of the MuiscCast application. Cheers.
Less than perfect.
There’s much to improve to make this app easy to use. I’ve found several important functions that require two or three button presses to get to, like volume control and radio station presets. These should be on the main screen, and when using the tuner, the presets should be visible to change with one touch.
Not being able to change the source unless a zone is powered on is also annoying, especially when our second zone is outside.
I set up a WX-030 to link with my Aventage amp and I’m disappointed with the performance here too, hopefully the link weakness is fixed in a software update.
I’m stuck with Yamaha MusicCast now, so please improve its performance!
Less than expected, much much less
Purchased my new Yamaha home theatre system on the strength of my previous Yamaha system being easy to use and sounding quite good, added to this was the promise of the MusicCast ability which has fallen far short of my expectations. It seems to rely on the strength of my home WiFi signal which as anyone in Australia knows is subject to who the hell knows what, the internet here is poor and so is your system.
Perhaps in your next firmware upgrade you could introduce something so that the mobile device that is controlling the system is in a stand alone network. You need to join a stand alone network to set it up, why not keep it that way?
