Can’t even complaint from the complaint feature
I was trying to write the complaint below, from ‘Non App Feedback’ section. It wasn’t taking my response. So I went to ‘App Complaint’ to write about it. Ironically it didn’t work as well. And said, Background Server unavailable. So I ended up here. I wonder, if this feature was there on the first place or it was just for show off.
Original complaint, “I’ve been waiting in front of A’Beckett Street bus stop till 6:35 am. The 6:43 am bus to Sunshine didn’t show up at all. In the app, before I stood in the stop, it was showing 8 mins to come and it just keep on adding a minute or 2 every time. And the 6:59 am service came 10 mins late. It took me almost 40 mins to get a bus. And this isn’t for the first time. Route 220 is the most unreliable service of PTV, since I take the bus 5 times/week for round trips from City to Footscray. I hope, proper concerns will take initiative to improve this bus service.”
App not worth the money (and it was free)
I’m writing this review in the 30+ minutes I have to wait in 30 degree sunshine because of this app.
It wasn’t because some times the scheduled bus doesn’t show up in the app.
It wasn’t because a scheduled bus shows as being a long time away from coming then mysteriously travels 20 minutes in 2 minutes as if it has driven through a wormhole (according to the app).
It’s because you keep swapping the direction on any bus stops saved as favourites. Take today for example. My train was approaching Cheltenham. I consult the favourite bus stops as saved in the PTV app to see which bus is heading to where I want to go. Bus from Cheltenham says 4 minutes, bus from Mentone says 10 minutes. So I get off at Cheltenham. Bus doesn’t arrive, but two arrive in quick succession going the opposite direction. I check the app again... the favourite is showing buses going the other way. Check the way I want to go for the next bus... 32 minutes (this constitutes acceptable bus frequency in peak hour here but that’s a hot take for another time). Now I’m sweating my ring out thanks to the PTV app.
So to summarise:
• Ensure all services are tracked on the app,
• Improve real time tracking of buses to eliminate latency,
• For the love of all that is good in the world DON’T SWAP THE ROUTE DIRECTION FOR THE FAVOURITES!
Going back to doing the travel math myself
Seriously, Melbourne has one of the worst transport systems in the world. Is it that hard to get the schedule right?
Here are the following issues, please fix.
- scheduled arrival time 50% incorrect
- rarely suggested routes include the huge bus network (buses are mostly empty)
- doesn't show alternative routes which are faster
- don't think we haven't noticed sky bus take over as the only route to the airport when there is also the bus from Broadmeadows to airport. This option excludes budget and backpackers
- times displayed at tram stops and on the app show different times on some routes
- even after increasing walk time still doesn't show other alternative routes
E.g. Leaving 800 bourke st to flinders st. either train to southern cross or Collins st tram (what about the 70&75 tram 5 min walk which is usually a 5 min ride to flinders?!?)
Clearly you have an issue with real time data and this app is in dire need of an upgrade.
With tunnel works beginning on St Kilda Rd Melburnians are going to witness apocalyptic-like traffic conditions.
Until you resolve this I will work how my travel plans the old fashioned way and start riding my bike to work (which will soon not be an option either with crowded bike lanes).
Public Transport Victoria please fix this I beg you!
