Very pleasing

After discovering NewsRack for Mac OS had been discontinued, I hunted for an RSS reader that would run as a standalone reader on my PC. I had tried several previously that really didn’t meet my specific needs—something that looked good, was nice to read, easy to manage and, above all, I really did NOT want to subscribe to a sync service just to read a few RSS feeds.

I found ReadKit on the App Store this morning and have been using it for about the last two hours. I’m very pleased to say I’m finding it a joy to use: setting up to just a few minutes (importing the OPML file from NewsRack and a few minor preference tweaks to make it “look” the way I like it). It is responsive and it’s easy to navigate if you choose to use the keyboard. The App Store “Best Of” recommendation helped a lot in making my choice.

If you’re looking for a flexible and easy-to-use RSS reader that is also easy on the eye, this may very well be the one for you. Highly Recommended.

Far too crashy

I did previously give this featureful and unique app 5 stars. But it now crashes constantly, so has become useless. Over some months, I’ve been steadily downgrading my review, hoping that there would be some feedback on the crashes, some hope of a fix. But there’s no sign of that, so I’m down to one star, and have regretfully uninstalled ReadKit.

Bugs afflict all apps, and don’t in themselves merit review downgrades, but total lack of responsiveness on the developer’s part does. I have sent dozens of crash reports, with plenty of detail, without receiving a single response. I therefore have no idea whether or not this problem is being worked on, and am helpless to do anything other than report that here.

Given the obvious amount of work that has gone into this uniquely capable app, it’s possible the crashing bugs will get fixed, at which point ReadKit may merit 5 stars again. However, I’ll never find out, as I’m finished with it.
