SBS On Demand gives you free, unlimited access to programs and movies on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch so that you can watch your favourite SBS shows when you want.
SBS On Demand offers the following features:
• Search or browse from thousands of videos and discover documentaries, feature films, food shows and much more.
• Add your favourite videos to the Playlist so that you can watch them later. Plus, if you’re signed in with your SBS On Demand account, you’ll be able to access your Playlist across all devices with SBS On Demand available (website, Xbox, PlayStation 3 and IPTV).
• Stay up to date by subscribing to a program. With this feature, new episodes will be automatically added to your playlist.
• Be notified by the app when a new subscription video has been added to your Playlist, or if a Playlist video is about to expire.
• Find out which programs are coming soon to SBS On Demand, and add them so that they’ll automatically be included in your Playlist once available.
• If you enjoyed a video, share it with your friends via Twitter, Facebook or email.
• Adaptive video quality: Videos automatically adjust to available bandwidth and network conditions.
This app is designed for devices running iOS 5 and above. Watching SBS On Demand on any Apple device is metered regardless of your ISP. Due to rights restrictions, most videos on SBS On Demand are geo-blocked to Australia. Some videos of Insight, Dateline and World News Australia clips are available to watch internationally.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a known issue with the integration of Twitter within the app. This occurs on devices with OS 5.1 and 5.1.1 installed. On launch, the app will ask for permission to access your Twitter account, if one has been set up via 'Settings' on the device. The message reads: “On Demand” Would Like Access to Twitter Accounts. If ‘Don’t allow’ is selected, the app will not retain this preference, and subsequently the message requesting permission will continue to display each time the app is launched. We’re currently working on a solution for this problem.
In the interim, you can get around this issue by selecting ‘OK’ in response to this message. Following this, navigate to ‘Settings’ on your device’s home screen. Select ‘Twitter’, and then under the heading of ‘Allow,’ turn the ‘On Demand’ setting to ‘Off.’
If you choose to watch videos on the SBS On Demand app over your mobile provider’s network, you should take your data quota into consideration. This is the amount of data that your mobile phone company allows you to download each month at no extra cost. Should you exceed this quota, you may need to pay for extra costs.
Prior to using the SBS On Demand app on a mobile network, SBS recommends that you confirm with your mobile phone provider what your data quota is, as well as what the costs are for exceeding this quota. It is important that you monitor your usage to ensure that you don’t exceed your limit.
Please find below an approximate guide as to how much data could be consumed watching a SBS On Demand video on a mobile provider’s network. This assumes watching over a strong 3G connection, when data consumption is highest, and assumes that no data has been consumed other than via watching the video:
• 60 minute video - up to 675MB of data
• 30 minute video - up to 340MB of data
• 10 minute video - up to 115MB of data
• 5 minute video - up to 50MB of data

Very poor App
Considering the app does not appear to have been updated since 2013 for IOS5 (we are now at IOS8.3) it’s surprising the app still works or is downloaded. SBS stop marketing an app (as you do on tv) that is clearly substandard. To be fair, the app works well for watching shows on an iPad, however, when attempting to pay the same tv show on an apple TV using airplay, the lack of any work done since 2013 to update the app is clearly obvious. A tv show will stop when an Ad is scheduled (fine), but fails to restart when the Ad is over (not fine), the tv show then restarts from the beginning (really not fine) and does not allow any attempt to fast forward the show to where it was before the Ad started. Come on SBS, put some effort into this app and update the thing before you annoy every loyal follower you have. Your content is excellent, but the method of delivering that content is very poor indeed. I think it’s time for SBS to “take their fingers out” and update the App.
Totally ruined the World Cup 2014
DO NOT use this app to watch any rerun of a live sports match if you don't already know the result!!!
Latest example of a glitchy app whilst trying to watch the Argentina vs Switzerland game. Got to half time, all good, went back to the studio chat then a couple of ads ran then it went back to the studio supposedly before the start of the 2nd half and the presenter says "Congratulations to Argentina"???!!! Eh!!! So the app decided to jump to the end of the game studio chat and tell me the result. Unbelievable!!!
Other examples, trying to use the seek to fast forward past the studio chat to the game or if you've watched some of the game earlier and you want to use the seek slider to get to the point where you left off... Don't!!! So many times it would put me whole chunks ahead of where I wanted to end up many times missing goals and action I hadn't yet seen.
Another point, by displaying the length of the game you are effectively already telling the viewer whether the game ended in 90 minutes or went to extra time, again ruining the whole experience when you know this information.
If you're not watching reruns of sport matches then it's a great app/service but for ruining a lot of the excitement of the 2014 World Cup it's getting 1/5.
My advice is to go to your favourite torrent site and download the games from there.
Actual programming keeps interrupting my André Rieu advertisements!
I've noticed that, lately, small segments of actual television programmes are interrupting the advertisements for André Rieu when I use the SBS On Demand app. As André is one of the hippest and most relevant up-and-coming artists of 2014, I'm shocked, quite frankly, that so much air-play screen time is being devoted to the programmes that some people (I'm looking at you, basically everybody!) seem to think that the app is designed for. Madness!
Luckily, I only have to put up with about 7 to 15 minutes of these inconvenient interruptions of actual programming at a time before I can enjoy another advertisement again (well, perhaps a little longer if you count the time spent buffering as they roll over).
I thought I'd also congratulate the technician who organised for the "actual programming" (if one could even consider it thus without a soundtrack of Patrizio Buanne's dulcet tones) to immediately reset as soon as the advertisement is finished. This means I have to concentrate less on the programme (those first six minutes and fifty-four seconds, anyway), and can focus entirely on what I downloaded the app for: the frequent advertisements.
I'd honestly be rather pleased to have the opportunity to pay a small fee for the app, and do away with these ridiculous television programmes once and for all.
