Description

Simple DoF Calculator allows photographers to calculate the depth of field and hyperfocal distance for any given settings. It calculates the near limit, far limit, total depth of field, hyperfocal distance, distance in front of the subject and distance behind the subject.

Just choose your camera, aperture, focal length and focus distance and it shows you the depth of field, calculations are all done in real time.

Aperture range: f/0.95 - f/64, focal length range: 3 mm - 1200 mm, focus distance range: 1 in. - 999 ft.
Support for the following cameras:

Ratings and Reviews

Excellent, supports 2 camera simultaniously

RemekTek

I really like that it can switch between my choice of 2 cameras. Also the graphical display is easy to understand at a glance. After I got this app, I deleted my other DOF apps. Also good that it supports both iPhone and iPad with only one purchase.

I have one request though: Could you also show lens "equivalent" mm for non full frame cameras? The app already knows the sensor sizes for a large number of camera bodies, so it would be simple to add in brackets, the equivalent focal length. This could disappear if a FF camera was selected. E.g. for APS-C the focal length could show 23 (35) mm, indicating that actual focal length selected was 23mm, which is equivalent to 35mm on a film/full frame sensor camera.

Basic, but does the job

gromit219

As titled, a simple depth of field calculator that does the job. Good correlation with published tables and there's enough circle of confusion options (cameras and numeric values) to satisfy anybody. It doesn't however directly address the more common query where given a near and far distance you're after a focal distance and aperture. If there's any issue it's the odd choice of fractional aperture values which are unlikely to tally with any camera. It would be great to have a setting to specify full, half and third stops. An optional lock on the focal length would also be handy. Other than this it looks good and works well one handed.

Really good app for students

The_sports_photographer

Fanastic application that is very simple to use. Simply select your camera, and put in the necessary details (lens focal length and focusing distance) and you are given your focus limits instantly! I reccomend this for students who need a bit more time understanding this type of photographic theory. It's very straight forward and a pleasure to use!
