Paper Song Sheets Gone

I was reluctant to try the Songbook app, but as I was teaching the ukulele to a couple of friends at the time, both of whom had purchased the app, I thought it would help to be able to send my arrangements to them via the app. After doing this a few times I became a convert. I soon realised that carrying at least half a dozen folders to gig was more arduous than carrying my uke and unnecessary. All songs can be categorised, playlists for gigs can be set up easily and scrolling is flexible and useful - Better than turning pages. I realise there may be more sophisticated apps out there but for someone who just needs the chords changes and can improvise on the single lines - this app suits my needs. All songs are easily synced to Dropbox and my other devices (iPad and iPhone), so as long as I have my uke and iPhone I can play my entire song list. Editing on the run on pne device will also be reflected on the other. Songsheets can be sent to other players either as a chordpro document (if they have SongBook) or as a pdf. I really like it. Playing in dark places or when I’ve forgot my glasses is no longer a problem.

Mostly good

*Perks… instant auto sync with dropbox to my ipad. Excellent!
*Easy editing of chord placement, line placement etc.
*Fast easy movement between song view, edit song view, and playlists.
*Reasonably easy song view editing… font: style, size, color. Separate control options
for lyric and chords.
*Margin controls in print options don’t seem to do anything… unfortunate.
*Chord diagrams, included in print out and PDF is great (unlike the ipad vers. of this app) but ONLY printing the chords across the bottom or the top of the song can kill fitting a song onto one page. Trying to fit a song on one page is important for me. The chord diarams have no sizing option and no side placement option. *So SIZE and LEFT or RIGHT side placement of chord diagrams would be massively helpful.
So…. “mostly good"

Developer Response

There's a Print Auto-Zoom option which will fit the whole song printed on one page, including the chord diagrams. You can set how many chord diagrams are shown in one row, this defines the size of the diagrams.

Disappointing - VERY … but now much better

After some new versions, I’m finding this a great complement to the iPad version. I now link both versions to the same DropBox account. (Maybe this was possible earlier, but I couldn’t find it.) It’s so much quicker to edit on the Mac - I can copy & paste into Word, use Find & Replace, then copy it back into Songbook. I can type more quickly on a keyboard than I can on the iPad, so if I’m creating a song from new, it’s quicker this way. Tip: Get the lyrics into Songbook however you do it. Then, add the main chords you’re going to use in the song. Then use the iPad to quickly add the chords to the songs.

Disappointing - earlier version. Now revised.
I went to this app after using the iPad equivalent, so that I could use the keyboard & mouse for quicker edits. However, some of the features are missing - eg the Keyboard Chord Row, and the linked browser search. So I was a bit disappointed. But it got worse though, with errors happening after converting to ChordPro - bad enough to have to ditch the file & start again. So - quite disappointing. Since then, I've discovered that when I transpose a song, I can't save the new key! Hopeless. this is one of the key reasons for using this software.
