Description

In Spectromancer, a fantasy card game, players participate in a magical duel against other mages by strategically summoning creatures and casting spells. Each mage uses five magical elements during a duel - Fire, Water, Air and Earth, plus a fifth related to the specific mage type. Players are able to duel against the computer or against other online players live.

Amazing game, strange visual decision

A really fun game with lots of replayability. I loved ‘KardKombat’, which was identical in general card game gameplay, but Spectromancer has a lot of extra features that add to it - especially the campaign mode.

Unfortunately the visual design makes it really tough to enjoy. So much of the screen is taken up by low-value reference tools (especially your avatar icon, an area that can have mission details if you click on the right button but is generally just empty space, and a message-board style record of moves made), that less than a third of the screen is for the actual gameplay area - maybe less than a quarter. Especially strange because KardKombat, which I must assume is it’s predecessor, used the full screen well.

There are also issues with data entry, such as with character name entry, in that you can’t see what you are typing, etc.

Still enjoyable but between squinting and simply not being sucked into the visual world fully, it ends up feeling a bit mediocre.

addictive

This is a great turn based strategy card game. It is a faithful reproduction of the pc version. It is easy to understand and play and requires a good deal of careful strategy to beat the single player campaign. Unfortunately I haven't yet been able to get the online multiplayer to connect to the server with this ipad version though my pc version online was fine.
