Spidentify raises the bar for natural history apps
Australian spiders are poorly known, underappreciated, unnecessarily maligned and hard to learn about; this app changes all that. It is a field guide that simultaneously informs you about, and entices you into, the spider world. You can use the simple yet effective spider key, answering a series of multi-choice questions to quickly drill down to the spider you're staring at. Or you can just browse through the stunning photos and start a wish list of the ones you want to find next. It's very easy to navigate, with intuitive interfaces and just the right amount of information on each page. Yet there are many layers of information to explore. The app is peppered with fascinating natural history titbits in the Description and Behaviour sections for each spider, drawing from the extensive field experience of the authors. It's sure to cure arachnophobia but may cause arachnophilia.
This app is for everyone. For those householders keen to know who they share their house and backyard with, for those parents worried about their children and the spiders they may come into contact with, for keen students of zoology, for those who appreciate the natural world.....the list goes on.
The work that has gone into Spidentify is enormous and the work is presented in a way that’s accessible to everyone. It’s a wonderful scientific tool, well done to all concerned with its production.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! VALUE FOR MONEY! I downloaded this to identify a few spiders living around my building in Melbourne. The app is easy to navigate, the questions make sense and include little visual guides to help you correctly summarise the characteristics, and the photo results are good quality and the information really helpful. I really recommend this to anyone living in Australia and coming into contact with spiders in any environment!
Up to six family members will be able to use this app with Family Sharing enabled.
