What's New in Version 1.6
Fixed bug causing runtime problems with 2nd generation iTouch.
I have an 8 year old who is verbal but not able to read or write. This app is wonderful, for her, as she can "speak" her answers and it allows for her cognitive ability to still work despite her disability. It assists her in writing sentences and paragraphs but it doesn't matter that she can't "write" her answers down she can speak them.
I also love that this app isn't a "five second thrill"...it grows with the child's ability. There are three levels all with different levels of focus and optional additional supports.
The graphics used are clear and crisp and I like that they are more "pictures" than "photos". It goes with the story feel. Although, I acknowledge this may not be a preference for those children who need the photo.
On a minor issue (although for parents like me it is very much appreicated) is the ease of use and setting up ready to go. Not only could I do it with a minimal amount of fuss but it was quick!
Overall, this is a wonderful educational app. By far one of my favorites. I actually showed my daughters teacher this one and she just shook her head and said "that is why we need ipad's in the class room". I don't think you could get higher praise than that.
Story Builder for iPad and iPhone
My two young boys (an 8yo with an intellectual and a physical disability and a 6yo mainstraim) both enjoy this App! Both love hearing their own recorded voices back and laughing at each other's stories. There is a great variety of Picture story starters, and the prompts are very helpful to my 8yo in getting his ideas out of his head, and to organise his thoughts into a story structure. It could be improved by opening on the Play screen rather than the Settings screen.
