Editors' Notes

It’s been a while since we’ve been this captivated by a card battler. Story mode is a fun way to practise up and learn new Legends, and Elder Scrolls intense online battles are complex and rewarding. Unlocking card packs and building an amazing deck is a blast—and the ability to “train" your cards means the you’ll be tinkering and perfecting for a long, long time.

A lot of fun, needs some tweaks

Since I play Magic and a bit of HearthStone, this game was easy to get into. I am still playing through the story mode and have not played against humans yet. I think this game is a lot of fun but has some issues.

- It's so very similar to HearthStone. The gameplay is great but I couldn't help but I wince at seeing the similarities. I guess HearthStone has simply set a new standard for mobile electronic CCGs.

- Help is not available everywhere. For example: there are places in the game where a touch is a decision (choose to get this card or that card) and no long press is available to give you details about the card.

- Memory must really be an issue... As almost every time I switch to another app on my iPad Pro 12 inch, I am disconnected and the game reloads. Worse is that single player battles are not saved and restored when this happens during one.

- Going first seems like a real punishment. I would rather go second in every single game and get a ring I can use three times for a free point of mana.. sorry magicka. :)

- I am glad to see other reviewers say this is not pay to win, because there are too many competing electronic CCGs I enjoy and honestly I don't see myself dropping cash on this one. Yet...

The game is rigged - not at first, but once you've been playing for a while and an algorithm reckons you're hooked, the game will start outrageously favouring the AI when you play against it. It either has insane cards or it draws its regular cards with perfect timing. You can even see that it knows what cards it will be getting because it's previous plays don't make any sense otherwise. They couldn't make the AI good enough to beat skilled players so they line up exactly the cards that the AI needs. If you ignore the AI aspect of the game during this time and just play other players, the game will force awful card draws on you, to make you sure you don't enjoy playing. The aim is to get you back to the AI to farm soul gems and get better cards (even in the rigged circumstances) because you think that's why you're losing - it's not, you're losing because the game wants you to spend money to buy cards to get over the frustration of losing. This way the "free" game essentially becomes pay to play.
