Time for an update!
The first time I opened the app, I got the warning message (on iOS 10), that this app might slow my iPhone down. The last time this app was updated was in 2014! That's aeons these days.
The app's age also becomes evident when looking at the fonts. They're huge on an iPhone 6 Plus.
The menu is somehow hidden (albeit cute) in the tree at the bottom. Tapping it will reveal the options.
The appeal of the app is to find out where PYO (pick your own) farms are. The presentation behind that could've been done better. Currently all it does is to list the PYO farms. You then have to select each to find out what they offer this month. I'd like to be presented with a list of what's in season and who offers it. The app currently needs a lot of to'ing and fro'ing. Your thumbs will hurt.
What's missing also are basics such as the ability to tap links in descriptions, a calendar of what's in season when, reminders, a legend of what the symbols mean (or a tap on a symbol to explain that "P" stands for "Pick Your Own"), two finger tap zoom out on maps etc. There's a lot that needs to be done here!
This App takes me directly to a farm of my choice. If you love apples and picking apples this App shows what farms are in season, when they are open and how far you have to travel to pick your own fruit. There are six farming regions and two Farmers and Fine Food Markets to choose from on the door steps of Sydney. YTou can pick your own fruit, visit a veggies farm to purchase fresh local veggies, visit a winery, visit a gardent, cuddle a alpaca and have a meal or stay a night.
Works a treat!
We used the Farm Gate app on a trip down the NSW South Coast and loved the 'Close to Me' option. Places to visit appeared in order of distance away. A quick tap on the phone let us see if they were open, what produce we could pick or buy, while another tap on the phone gave us directions. Fantastic touring companion!
Up to six family members will be able to use this app with Family Sharing enabled.
