What's New in Version 2.4.22
- Bug Fixes
Who's been caught out with Non-responsive design?
I've recently switch to the iPad Pro from the MacBook Pro, to make it my primary computer. And I've been impressed. Simple things like file management and printing, which I thought would be a problem, turns out to be both a breeze and simple.
What has been the surprise is how many of the major app developers, like The Sydney Morning Herald, have been caught out with the introduction of new sized devices such as the iPad Pro. Given the effort that everyone's taken to make websites responsive, so they display well on any device, you would have thought these large players could have worked out there would be different screen sizes for apps too. Instead, we've got apps that have been designed for smaller screens and don't take advantage of the responsive capabilities that iOS provides. Ultimately making for a poor and cumbersome experience.
As a paying subscriber to the SMH, I would hope they are going to continue to support changes to the ecosystem. There hasn't been a major update to the app since its first release, so really should be looking to provide evolution to support the paygate.
Great journalism. Lukewarm execution.
Bug: when looking up a word in the dictionary it's hard to close the pop-up. clicking outside the pop-up doesn't close the pop-up. You have to click the 'cancel' button which is white text against a light grey background.
The share sheet button should launch the standard iOS share sheet with options to copy the link to the article. Share to Facebook posts to friends wall rather than as a private message!
On some days, app just quits as soon as you try to open it. (This is on an iPad Pro.) Rebooting the iPad doesn't help, and you're forced to delete the app and reinstall it before you can get your paper. Surely an organisation as big as this could (a) test properly before release, and (b) fix reported problems in a timely manner. Maybe someone should write a newspaper article about the flakiness of this app ...... Oh, wait, that's not gonna happen! :-)
