Touch Mouse by Logitech turns your iPhone or iPod touch into a wireless trackpad and keyboard for your computer.
Do you connect your computer to your TV? Touch Mouse is the perfect solution for when you want to stay in control from the comfort of your couch. Point, click, scroll and type in any application—on a Mac or a PC.
Touch Mouse works over Wi-Fi, so you can use it anywhere in the house. And to make typing easier, text is displayed on the screen of your iPhone or iPod touch as you type, so you can see what you’re doing without having to continually look up and down.
- Multi-touch trackpad with option for two or three buttons
- Two-finger scrolling
- Keyboard with modifier keys
- On-screen text display while typing
- Show or hide the keyboard at any time
- Trackpad and keyboard are available in landscape and portrait modes
To make Touch Mouse work, you will need to download the Touch Mouse Server software from www.logitech.com/touchmouse and install it on your Mac or PC. This software enables the Touch Mouse app on your iPhone or iPod touch to find your computer and communicate with it.
- Mac with OS X 10.5 or higher
- PC with Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7
- Computer and iPhone or iPod touch must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network
- Touch Mouse Server software must be installed and running on the computer you want to control
Good for Powerpoint; Lives nicely with Apple Remote
Touchmouse works well out of the box (I use iOS 3.1.3, iTunes 9 with WinXP on an ASUS eeePC). Teams very nicely with Apple's Remote app. My Billion 7402VGP modem/switch/wireless box, my old Minitar wireless switch and my Virgin-branded Huawei E5832 mini WiFi/3G modem/switch all work fine with Touchmouse too. The mini WiFi/modem device is really good to use with Touchmouse at business lunches, giving excellent range and enabling me to control the display on the big screen from the comfort of my seat at a lunch table and there's no need for me to muscle in on the PC at the lectern before/after the speaker does his stuff. My only criticism is that mouse movement is not as smooth as a hardware device but it is early days for me and I think I will eventually assimilate the app.
The keyboard feature is a little temperamental, however the main touchpad feature works almost perfectly, and it was very easy to set up on my Mac. It launches quickly and links seamlessly once the initial setup is complete. Extremely useful for presentations, using the computer from a distance (say, while watching a movie or whatever), or simply for the lazy or tech-savvy. The interface is simple and effective, and offers the user all three buttons (right, center and left), which the laptop trackpads do not. Best of all, it's free! One of the best apps I've come across.
I downloaded this while waiting for people to show up to a presentation mainly to kill time, and have been using it ever since. This is absolute gold for anyone doing presentations where it is useful for them to be standing and pointing at a whiteboard and still interacting with their computer. Small issue with very occasional lag (roughly every 15 mins or so I have experienced a lag effect of a few seconds), but I still definitely recommend it; I've had 2 people declare they are getting iPhones after watching me use this app.
