Are you getting a message asking you to turn on notifications? You need to ensure that push notifications are enabled specifically for the VicEmergency app, as follows:

For iOS10, iOS9, iOS8 and iOS6:
1. Click on the Settings icon and then select Notifications.
2. Scroll down, click the VicEmergency icon
3. Ensure 'Allow Notifications" or "Notification Centre" (iOS6) at top of the screen is set to On.

For iOS7:
1. Open the device's Settings icon and then select 'Notification Center'.

Hopelessly complicated app.

PlatinumChris

This app is far to complicated and difficult to use. Information is hard to find. The State government has wasted lots of taxpayer money combining all services into one app, making it difficult to navigate and causing frustration. The original DSE and CFA FireReady apps were easy to use and shouldn’t have been scrapped. The Vic Emergency app is useless when trying to get information. I’m sure most people give up trying to use it. Bring back the original separate apps for each service before people are injured or have their homes destroyed. This app is complicated “overkill”. The person or panel who dreamt up this mess should be moved to less important roles. Typical politicians and public servants squandering money and creating more work for their mates. GET RID OF IT!

Fails to notify when fire within 15kms

skye3110

I live in a high risk area with a national park surrounding our property and in the last 2 months this app has failed to notify me of 2 fires within 5-10kms from my house! You push this app that it's supposed to give warning and time to get out and it can't even notify at the most crucial times!! No problem notifying when it's over 20kms away! Only when it's close!!
Unreliable app and terrifying when you realise there's smoke outside and have to open the website on a desktop computer to see where and that I should have been notified 20 minutes earlier!!
THIS IS PUTTING PEOPLE AT RISK!!
FIX YOUR SH*T!!!

Failed right off the bat

SW888SW888

Tried to create a watch zone for Little River. The app wouldn’t allow me to save the watch zone because I didn’t have Location Services turned on. I, like many other users, do not want my location tracked. My location is irrelevant if I just want an alert for a particular area. This behaviour contradicts the long-established precedent of map-based apps in which Location Services need only be switched on for relevant services such as live tracking of a route. Come on, people. This is App Design 101: harness the precedents of conceptual models of established apps in order to provide an intuitive UX.
