Use your Optus mobile number over WiFi!

Found yourself with limited or no indoor mobile coverage? WiFi Talk will help keep you connected at home and in most places that have a WiFi hotspot even without a mobile signal!

Why install WiFiTalk?

- Make and receive calls and texts when indoor coverage is limited.
- Use wherever you can connect to WiFi even when there is no mobile signal.
- You can use your existing Optus mobile number and people calling or texting you don’t do anything different.
- Use it to contact any phone number, mobile or landline, in Australia or overseas.
- Calls and texts are charged to your mobile bill with the same inclusions and rates as your Optus mobile plan.
- Use it at home, a friend’s house, in hotels, the office, shopping centres and loads more places where you can access WiFi (but some WiFi hotspots may not be compatible).

What do I need to use WiFi Talk?
- An Optus mobile postpaid, prepaid or Optus Business plan
- iPhone 4 or above with iOS version 7 or above
- Access to a compatible WiFi connection

WiFi Talk is not compatible with
- Optus network re-sellers or wholesale providers
- Data only services
- Jail-broken devices
- And cannot be used outside Australia

It seems no matter how Optus glosses over it, this app is a substandard replacement to the home zone. Unfortunately, it is not an app you have by choice but by necessity because if you had Home zone, you are in in a black spot and therefore need a booster. A customer care agent informed me that the Home zone contract was not renewed and Optus was left to find an alternative solution. This 'Viberesque' wifi talk has many problems. You cannot block recipients. I can block them on my mail and normal txt but not on wifi talk. My call have consistently dropped out- about 6 times the other day. Wifi has to turned on continually and I am sure there are others frustrations waiting to be vented by other disgruntled customers. Bring back Homezone Optus. You were on to good thing there. If it isn't broke, don't fix it ....

Embarassing (rating is 0 if I could select it)

Edit 17 Jan 2017 - last app update was may 2016. Really? Not only you stopped Home Zone which was working well. You now stop updating this app which which doesn't even have the table stakes it needs!!!

I use to advocate how good was Homezone to both Optus and non-Optus users. How quickly does that change. Now I am considering changing providers as my phone is literally useless at home.

The previous review by Joneslaura is a great summary of some critical flaws which I agree with totally. I just received some messages (SMS) and now have them in two places. I have missed calls because I couldn't swipe on the lock screen to answer.

As a user the solution should be seamless and Homezone gave us that. Any alternative or replacement needs to be equivalent or better.

Please have empathy for users and design something with the Customer in mind. The customer experience (CX) is poor with this app. Definitely a major backward step from Homezone. It was a bit painful to switch from 4G to 3G on the mobile to connect to homezone but that now pales in comparison to using this app.

This App ?????

Dear Mr Optus, there are some good features or rather good intentions behind this App.
We all understand that Homezone was not cost effective for you otherwise we would not have this App.
However can you not take the time to solve the issues that this App currently has.
A. It does not allow the phone to stay consistently connect to Wifi, every time you come home you have to go through the process to hook up to Wifi again and again and again.
B. The App consistently drops the call sometimes 5 or 6 times ON THE SAME CALL.
Now we need go No further than that. Really is that such a big problem.
Homezone was a fantastic system which made up for your network failings in certain geographic locations.
Can I add that this is NOT the Users fault. It is not our Network, but we have to pay every month, for substandard service from an otherwise good service provider, does that seem fair to you.
You spend millions of dollars in advertising your company and shoot yourselves in the foot with this product.
Will you PLEASE do the right thing and fix it.
That is all we are asking ?
Is that too much ?
