About Ajay-Atul

Prolific singer-composer duo Ajay-Atul have blazed an evocative trail for Marathi film music since the turn of the century. Indeed, it could be argued that the brothers—who grew up in villages in Maharashtra state—beat the Marathi folk drums with even more energy on their powerful Bollywood soundtracks. Ajay Ashok Gogavale and his older brother Atul Ashok Gogavale got into music composition without any formal training—or instruments, for that matter, as they would borrow whatever, whenever possible to learn their art from scratch. This dedication paid off as their first work as a duo in the late ’90s led to their big break in 2001, when they composed music for Sanskrit-language devotional album Vishwa Vinayaka. This was swiftly followed by music for a staggering number of films, winning them multiple awards for their music direction along the way. A major moment was when they scooped a National Film Award for their work on 2009 Marathi movie Jogwa, which included the soaring love song “Jeev Rangla”. More acclaim arrived with their music for 2010’s Natarang and the duo honed their epic sound on films like Agneepath (2011), Singham (2011) and PK (2014). Sairat in 2016 spawned the high-energy Maharashtrian folk-informed “Zingaat” and that hit was re-spun in the Hindi remake Dhadak, bringing the brothers millions more fans in the process. Their music for historical dramas like 2019’s Panipat and their work on spiritual-themed soundtracks such as 2023’s Adipurush also deserve mention. There’s much more ground for these siblings to conquer yet.
