About Danny Michel

A singer/songwriter and producer whose music reflects a variety of genres and styles – among them, '80s college rock, '90s alt-rock, adult contemporary pop, folk, and classical music -- Canada's Danny Michel emerged in 1997 with Before the World Was Round. His fifth album and MapleMusic debut, Tales from the Invisible Man, led to a nomination for New Artist of the Year at the 2004 Juno Awards. He returned to issuing albums independently before relocating to Belize in 2011 to work with Afro-Amerindian group the Garifuna Collective. The resulting Black Birds Are Dancing Over Me earned Juno and Polaris Music Prize nominations in 2013, and Michel was named Producer of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards for his 11th full-length, 2017's Khlebnikov. Active in causes including education and the environment, Michel performed at the 85th birthday party of conservationist Jane Goodall.
