About David Johansen
After infamously crossdressing with the New York Dolls, punk barker David Johansen continued to don different guises as a solo artist. First, in the late '70s, Johansen married his punk Mick Jagger vocals to tough, E-Street band-style epic rock for a handful of solo albums under his own name. By 1983 a pompadoured Johansen emerged from the cabaret circuit with a stint singing on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE and the unexpected soca smash "Hot Hot Hot," a cover of the Arrow song. After landing some high profile character acting roles in Hollywood movies, a goateed Johansen reinvented himself yet again in the '00s as the frontman for the Harry Smiths, a rough and tumble country blues band inspired by the ANTHOLOGY OF AMERICAN FOLK MUSIC.
